With Gratitude

In Family + Pets by Laura NollLeave a Comment

Happy Thanksgiving, friends.

Today, the Prettyography crew is celebrating with each of our families. It’s in these moments of gathering and joy that we’re forced to slow down and acknowledge that there is so very much to be thankful for in our lives. We are fortunate in more ways than one. In the spirit of Thanksgiving — well, the spirit beyond our obsession with potatoes and gravy — we’re using today to be a bit more conscious of it all. And we invite you to do the same.

In her book The Language of Letting Go, Melody Beattie offers a beautiful perspective on gratitude:

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. It turns problems into gifts, failures into successes, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into important events. It can turn an existence into a real life, and disconnected situations into important and beneficial lessons. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”

Melody’s words are so right. In the past few weeks, I’ve practiced daily thankfulness for the seemingly smallest things in my life. The transformation has been incredible and I couldn’t recommend more to anyone that you take a minute to realize what fortunes surround you each and every day. It’s truly incredible and overwhelmingly humbling.

To get the ball rolling on today, Shanda, Brooke and Allie joined me in sharing the things they’re thankful for — a Thanksgiving Thankfulness Extravaganza, you guys. Get ready to be grateful.

As always, I’m thankful for my friends and family, my Gracie pup, my home and my job, my good health and all the wonderful opportunities I’ve had to travel and experience live music this past year. (And that the Royals took the crown!!!)

This Thanksgiving I am grateful for the crazy roller coaster of experiences that has been this last year. Most of all I am thankful for health and happiness. I look forward to getting married, am so happy to have my sweet pups Hank and Rocky, my incredibly supportive family and for almost being done with grad school (yay!)

This year I have so many things to be thankful for. I’m so thankful the constant support from my amazing family and friends. I’m also thankful for my career and the volunteer opportunities I’ve been involved in because they’ve helped me grow in so many ways. I’m also thankful for launch and success of Prettyography and Allie McDowell Photography. Lastly, I’m thankful for queso (because it’s delicious) and for Adele’s new album, 25 because its brilliant.

You guys, this adventure is nuts. I’m beyond grateful for where life has landed me right now. I’m surrounded by an incredible and supportive family that caves to my billion crazy ideas, the best of friends — new and old — who will toast wine to successes and listen as I melt down before a date, then there’s my big-hearted buddy Ogi who keeps it interesting at a minimum. Of all the things I’m very lucky to have, I couldn’t possibly live without these.

What aspects of your life are you celebrating today? What are you most grateful for? Share with us on Facebook and #ThankfulThursday to join in our gratitude party.
